March 31, 2025 – Vienna, Austria – The Philippine Embassy in Vienna has become a vibrant hub of contemporary Filipino artistry, opening its doors to an exciting exhibition titled “Tara Let’s!” This innovative visual arts showcase features the works of talented Filipino artists and operates under the auspices of the Sige! Artists Group, the Art Cultural Exchange Society, and the Bastedor Art Project. From 31 March to 8 April 2025, the exhibition aims to highlight the diverse artistic expressions emanating from the Philippines, fostering appreciation and recognition across Europe.
Celebrating Filipino Art: The Vision Behind Tara Let’s!
The Tara Let’s! exhibition brings Filipino art to the forefront in Vienna, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and arts scene. During the vernissage event, Ambassador Evangelina Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas emphasized the embassy’s commitment to promoting Philippine art beyond the confines of Vienna. Her support reaffirms a vision where Filipino artists can gain international recognition. The ambassador highlighted that art is integral to fostering understanding and appreciation of Filipino culture worldwide.

The Role of Key Personalities in the Exhibition
The exhibition features influential personalities who have significantly contributed to promoting Philippine art. One notable figure is Junever Mahilum-West, the Philippine Ambassador to France, who actively supports such initiatives. In her statements, she stressed the importance of showcasing Philippine visual art for global appreciation, which serves as a means of expression and a powerful tool for recognition.
The ambassador’s involvement reinforces the idea that participating in such cultural events increases Filipino artists’ visibility.
Equally important is Norlie Meimban, the founder of the Bastedor Art Project. Meimban’s vision for the exhibition emphasizes the promotion of young Filipino artists who are based both in Manila and abroad. “The main objective of the exhibition is to create a platform where emerging talents can gain exposure. Vienna is an ideal venue since the city’s artistic milieu offers a unique opportunity for artists to reach neighboring countries,” Meimban said.
The Impact of Localization: Vienna as a Cultural Hub
Vienna, known for its deep-rooted artistic traditions, is a strategic location for showcasing Filipino artistry. The exhibition is not just a celebration of art; it also signifies the intersection of cultures, where Filipino creativity can thrive internationally. The presence of local Austrian art enthusiasts alongside individuals from the Filipino diaspora creates a richer dialogue about contemporary issues through art.
Key opportunities this exhibition presents include:
1. Cross-Cultural Exchange: Encourages dialogue between Filipino and Austrian artists and audiences.
2. Networking for Filipino Artists: Provides a crucial networking opportunity with international galleries and artists.
3. Learning and Development: Engages exhibiting artists and attendees in learning about new techniques, ideas, and artistic philosophies.
Honoring Participants and Building Relationships
During the exhibition, local artist Harold Khan played a pivotal role alongside Norlie Meimban, recognizing the contributions of all participating artists by presenting Certificates of Appreciation. This initiative fosters a sense of community and collaboration among Filipino artists and strengthens ties within the arts fraternity.
In a gesture of gratitude for the embassy’s unwavering support, the exhibiting artists presented Ambassador Arroyo-Bernas with paintings, symbolizing a heartfelt appreciation for the facilitated showcase of their talent. This act not only signified respect and acknowledgment but also served as a powerful reminder of the support systems that allow artists to flourish.
The “Tara Let’s!” exhibition at the Philippine Embassy in Vienna exemplifies the vibrant and diverse expressions of contemporary Filipino art. Through the passionate efforts of numerous individuals and organizations, the event not only highlights the rich cultural tapestry of the Philippines but also promotes a greater appreciation for its artists on an international stage. As Filipino art finds its place within a cosmopolitan context, it carries with it the stories, struggles, and triumphs of its people—inviting recognition, dialogue, and celebration from cultures around the world. This exhibition is one of many steps towards building an enduring legacy of Filipino artistry in the global community.
